Swing dancing is about having fun, but also about great music from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. The danceable swing style of bandleaders such as Benny Goodman and Count Basie was the dominant form of American popular music from 1935 to 1945, and makes up a lot of the music we listen to. Other big band names include Jimmie Lunceford, Chick Webb, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, and, of course, Glenn Miller. We’ve also been known to dance to the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley and James Brown.
